Dans le cadre de *Skool* –une expérience de programmation d'été offerte par
le Centre des arts actuels Skol–, le *Bureau d'investigation d'archives
(BIA)* sollicite des candidatures pour participer à un projet d'atelier
ouvert d'une durée de cinq semaines qui aura lieu *du 14 juillet au 15 août
2009*.

Le *BIA* mène une recherche dans les archives de la programmation récente de
Skol qui permettra de faire de l'histoire du centre un lieu concret
d'interaction, d'échange et de production. Les participants auront accès à
un espace de travail commun dans la galerie (matériaux et procédés non
toxiques seulement) et au matériel tiré des archives de la programmation de
Skol pour mener une recherche axée sur la production artistique. Chaque
participant s'inspirera de sa démarche personnelle pour aborder les
questions suivantes :

   - Quels éléments peuvent constituer des archives?
   - Quel rôle jouent les archives dans un centre d'artistes autogéré?
   - Que peut-on apprendre en utilisant les archives comme matériau?
   - De quelle façon les archives sont-elles utiles, et quelle est l'utilité
   des archives?

Les coordonnatrices du BIA, *Sabrina Russo* et *Karen Zalamea*, organiseront
des réunions de groupe régulières pour encadrer le projet. Les participants
auront accès à l'atelier pendant toute la semaine pour leur production
indépendante et détermineront ensemble les jours où ils accueilleront le
public. Les participants doivent pouvoir travailler de façon autonome et
être disponibles pour participer à des discussions de groupe hebdomadaires
sur leurs méthodes de travail. Il va de soi qu'on y abordera des enjeux
concernant la production, la diffusion et la propriété du matériel
archivistique réapproprié dans d'autres œuvres artistiques.

Dans l'esprit de son mandat, Skol encourage les artistes professionnels
émergeants qui ont une approche expérimentale et critique à poser leur
candidature. Bien que la langue de travail privilégiée à Skol soit le
français, les participants pourront s'exprimer dans la langue de leur choix.

Les participants sélectionnés, au maximum de cinq, recevront un cachet de
250 $ et seront admis comme membre de Skol pour une période d'un an. On
prévoit un petit budget pour le matériel qui sera partagé en fonction des
besoins de chacun.

   1. Une déclaration d'intérêt et des notes biographiques (1 page
   maximum) ;
   2. Un curriculum vitae (2 pages maximum) ;
   3. Un aperçu de la production artistique, présenté dans un des formats
   suivants :
      - jusqu'à 5 images d'œuvres récentes (formats .jpg, 1024x768, 72dpi,
      RGB) et/ou
      - un hyperlien vers une vidéo et/ou
      - un échantillon de texte (fichier Microsoft Word ou PDF de 5 pages
      maximum).

As part of the *Skool* summer programming experiment at Centre des arts
actuels Skol, the *Office for Archival Review (OAR)* is pleased to invite
proposals to participate in a 5-week open studio project *from 14 July to 15
August, 2009*.

The *OAR* is conducting an investigation of Skol's recent programming
archive in which the centre's history will become a tangible site of
interaction, exchange and artistic production. Participants will be offered
a shared workspace (non-toxic processes only) in the gallery and access to
material from Skol’s programming archives to carry out production-based
research. Drawing on individual practices, each participant’s contribution
to the project will be framed by the following questions:

   - What constitutes an archive?
   - What is the role of an archive in an artist-run centre?
   - What can be learned from using an archive as material?
   - How is an archive useful? How useful is an archive?

The project will be guided by regular group meetings led by the OAR
coordinators, *Sabrina Russo* and *Karen Zalamea*. The studio will be
accessible to participants throughout the week for independent production
and open to the public on selected days (to be determined by participants).
Participants must be comfortable working independently, but open to engaging
in weekly group discussions about their methodologies for the duration of
the project. Issues surrounding the production, dissemination and ownership
of re-purposed archival material will inevitably be raised.

In the spirit of Skol’s mandate, emerging art professionals with an
experimental and critical outlook are encouraged to apply. While the primary
working language at Skol is French, participants can work in the language of
their choice.

Up to five applicants will be selected, each receiving an honorarium of $250
and a free 1-year Skol membership. A modest materials budget will be shared
on the basis of individual needs.
